OpenAI Codex just became a background desktop agent on your Mac

The news: OpenAI shipped a major Codex update on April 16 that lets agents click, type, and operate any Mac application in the background while you keep working. It also added 90+ new plugins (Atlassian, GitLab, Microsoft Suite, and more) and a scheduling layer that lets agents pause mid-task and resume days later.

How it affects automation: ERPs, CRMs, and internal tools that never had an API can now be driven through the GUI by an agent, the same way a human would. For anyone building with n8n or Claude Code, this raises the bar for what "automation" means. Clients will start asking whether their tools need an API at all.
